Emergency Turbulence: Quick Medical Response Saves Injured in Fiji Airways Flight

A medical team from Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals quickly responded to an emergency on Wednesday evening when a Fiji Airways flight, FJ910, traveling from Sydney to Nadi, experienced severe turbulence. This resulted in injuries to three cabin crew members and one passenger.

The PSH team, located near Nadi International Airport, arrived within minutes after receiving the alert from airport authorities. Parvish Kumar, the founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, highlighted the hospital’s commitment to emergency response, stating that it is their duty to assist their community and stakeholders in such situations.

Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, the Director of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, led the emergency response and noted that all affected individuals were promptly assessed and stabilized. He mentioned, “Remarkably, only one individual required hospitalization for advanced care, and we are relieved to report that this patient is in stable condition.”

Fiji Airways confirmed the incident, expressing regret over the injuries sustained and emphasizing their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of their passengers and crew. They assured that medical staff were ready to assist upon the flight’s arrival in Nadi, which showcases the airline’s preparedness and focus on passenger safety.

This incident echoes challenges faced not only by Fiji Airways but the broader aviation industry, underlining the importance of quick medical responses to unexpected events. The efficiency of the medical teams and communication protocols can encourage a more resilient aviation environment. Travelers can remain hopeful that through continuous improvements in safety measures, air travel will continue to be a safe and reliable option.
