Santiago Gomez Cora, the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast ambassador, will unfortunately miss the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical restrictions following emergency surgery. The Argentina sevens head coach has been advised by his doctor to refrain from travel for at least a month. Well-wishes have been extended to Santiago for a swift recovery, with hopes to see him back in Fiji in 2026.

The announcement regarding his absence was shared on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page. In the meantime, the Fiji 7s team is set to compete in Pool A alongside the New Zealand sevens team 2, as well as Tuva and Brothers.

Other pools for the tournament are shaped as follows: Pool B includes NZ Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West, while Pool C features BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Additionally, Pool D consists of the Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s as the overseas teams, with local teams Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s completing the lineup.

As fans prepare for the excitement of the tournament, the absence of Santiago serves as a reminder of the importance of health and well-being in sports. The event promises to showcase incredible talent and competition, marking a festive occasion for rugby enthusiasts in the region.
