Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as early as tomorrow in the Western Division to support those currently residing in evacuation centres. At present, four evacuation centres have been established, providing shelter to 61 households and a total of 234 individuals. These centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

In addition to government supplies, various faith-based organizations and NGOs, alongside the Ministry of Health, have contributed cooked meals and hygiene kits. The Fiji Red Cross has also played a critical role by supplying dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary evacuation centres.

Precautionary public advisories are currently in effect, urging individuals to prepare adequately and to avoid taking unnecessary risks. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are actively monitoring the situation, while the other three divisional EOCs are keeping a close watch on weather developments in their areas.

A Flood Warning is ongoing for regions vulnerable to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Furthermore, a Flood Alert has been issued for flood-prone areas adjacent to all major rivers in Fiji.

Local police are readily available and on standby to assist with evacuations from flood-prone regions if necessary. Members of the public are encouraged to evacuate when required and to do so during daylight hours for their safety. Assistance is available through the following contacts:

– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261
– Nearest Police Station: Please contact your local station for emergencies.

This coordinated response highlights the commitment of government and community entities in supporting those impacted by flooding, ensuring their safety during these challenging times. It showcases the resilience and cooperation of various organizations to provide essential aid, illustrating a hopeful spirit as affected communities come together with necessary resources.
