Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as early as tomorrow in the Western Division for those residing in evacuation centres. Currently, four evacuation centres are operating, providing shelter for 61 households and 234 individuals affected by adverse conditions.

The identified evacuation centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These facilities have been receiving generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various organizations, including faith-based groups, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has supplied dignity kits to those at both the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.

Authorities have issued public advisories urging citizens to stay prepared and avoid unnecessary risks as they monitor the evolving situation. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) is fully operational, working in tandem with the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), while other divisional EOCs remain vigilant regarding local weather conditions.

A Flood Warning has been issued for areas near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers, with a Flood Alert in place for flood-prone regions across Fiji. Police are prepared to assist with evacuations in flooding-affected areas as needed, and the public is strongly encouraged to evacuate when necessary, preferably during daylight for safety.

For those needing assistance, contact information for local authorities has been provided, including the Commissioner Western’s Office and the nearest police stations.

This situation highlights the resilience and preparedness of the community in times of crisis, with various organizations coming together to support those in need. The proactive measures being taken by government officials and emergency services aim to safeguard lives and facilitate a smoother recovery process for affected individuals.
