Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as soon as tomorrow for individuals in evacuation centres located in the Western Division. Currently, there are four activated Evacuation Centres that are catering to 61 households, accommodating a total of 234 individuals. These centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
These centres have received generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. The Fiji Red Cross has also contributed by providing dignity kits specifically to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.
In light of the ongoing situation, public advisories have been issued to encourage preparedness and to urge individuals to avoid unnecessary risks. Both the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remain active and operational, with other divisional EOCs closely monitoring the weather conditions in their areas.
A Flood Warning is currently in effect for areas prone to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. A Flood Alert has also been issued for all other flood-prone regions adjacent to major rivers across Fiji.
Authorities are taking precautions, with police officers on standby to assist in evacuating residents from flood-risk areas if the situation necessitates. The public is strongly encouraged to evacuate safely when required, particularly during daylight hours.
