Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as early as tomorrow in the Western Division for those residing in evacuation centers. Currently, four Evacuation Centres are operational, supporting 61 households and 234 individuals.

The established Evacuation Centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These locations have been receiving generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health.

Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has supplied dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres, further assisting those in need. Public advisories have been released as precautionary measures, highlighting the importance of preparedness and the avoidance of unnecessary risks.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre are currently activated, while the other three Divisional EOCs are vigilantly monitoring the weather conditions in their areas. A Flood Warning remains in effect for regions at risk of flooding along the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. A Flood Alert is also in place for areas adjacent to and downstream of all major rivers across Fiji.

In preparation for potential evacuations, police officers are on standby to assist residents in flood-prone areas. The public is strongly encouraged to evacuate when necessary, preferably during daylight hours to ensure safety.

For further assistance, citizens can reach out to the following contacts:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261

This situation highlights the importance of community resilience and cooperation during challenging times. The rapid response of local organizations and authorities aims to provide much-needed support to those affected, fostering hope and solidarity within the community.

Summary: The government will begin distributing food rations for evacuees in the Western Division due to flooding concerns. Four centers are operational, providing housing and assistance, while authorities emphasize preparedness and safety. The coordinated efforts showcase strong community support in facing these challenges.
