The Divisional Commissioner for the Western Division, Apolosi Lewaqai, has announced that food rations will be allocated solely to those who have been residing in evacuation centers for more than 48 hours. As a result, 61 families in Nadi are set to receive food packages today.
Commissioner Lewaqai specified, “According to our guidelines, we only provide food rations to evacuees 48 hours after their evacuation. Our teams are currently preparing the food packages for these families and aim to complete the distribution today.” The distribution efforts are focused on various locations, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
The Commissioner also highlighted that emergency operation centers will remain active, as continuous rainfall is anticipated throughout the weekend according to meteorological forecasts. “All relevant agencies have been briefed on our initial damage assessment exercise. Our team will concentrate on comprehensive assessments after the disaster to determine the level of assistance required by the affected communities,” he added.
