As a result, today 61 families in Nadi will receive much-needed food rations. Lewaqai explained, “In line with our guidelines, we deliver food rations to evacuees when they have been in shelters for 48 hours. Our teams are in the process of preparing these food packages for the families and aim to complete the distribution today.”
The distribution is focused on several locations in Nadi, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. Commissioner Lewaqai also noted that the emergency operations centers will remain active due to ongoing rainfall predictions throughout the weekend.
Furthermore, he highlighted that all relevant agencies have been updated regarding initial damage assessments, and a comprehensive evaluation will follow to determine the assistance needed by the impacted communities.
This initiative underscores the commitment of local authorities to support families in distress and ensure that relief efforts are well organized and timely. With communities coming together in challenging times, there is hope for a swift recovery.
