Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as soon as tomorrow in the Western Division for residents currently in evacuation centers. At present, four evacuation facilities have been activated, housing 61 households and totaling 234 individuals in the Western Division.
The specific evacuation centers include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These locations have been receiving generous contributions of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. In addition, the Fiji Red Cross has distributed dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.
Public advisories have been issued as precautionary measures, highlighting the importance of preparedness and caution among community members. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are both actively monitoring the situation, while the other three Divisional EOCs are keeping track of weather developments in their areas.
A Flood Warning remains in effect for regions at risk of flooding, particularly near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Additionally, a Flood Alert has been activated for flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of all major rivers throughout Fiji.
Local police are on standby to facilitate the evacuation of residents in flood-affected zones, if necessary. The public is strongly advised to evacuate when instructed, preferably during daylight hours for their safety.
