Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as soon as tomorrow in the Western Division for individuals residing in evacuation centres. At present, four evacuation centres are operational, sheltering 61 households and a total of 234 individuals. The designated centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

These centres have been receiving generous donations of prepared meals and hygiene supplies from various community organizations, including faith-based groups, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has supplied dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary evacuation centres to help meet the needs of those displaced.

As a precautionary measure, public advisories have been issued, urging residents to stay prepared and avoid unnecessary risks during this time. Both the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are currently operational, actively monitoring the situation. Other Divisional EOCs are also keeping a close watch on weather developments.

Currently, a Flood Warning is in effect for areas vulnerable to flooding near the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Additionally, a Flood Alert is issued for other flood-prone areas adjacent to major rivers across Fiji.

In case of emergencies, police officers are on standby to assist with evacuations in flood-prone regions if necessary. Residents are strongly advised to evacuate when instructed and preferably during daylight hours to ensure their safety.

For those needing assistance, the following contacts are available:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261
– Nearest Police Station for emergencies.

This coordinated response from the government and various organizations highlights the community’s solidarity in the face of crisis, offering hope and essential resources to those affected.
