Food rations provided by the government are set to begin tomorrow for individuals residing in evacuation centers in the Western Division. Currently, four evacuation centers have been established to support 61 households and 234 people affected in the region. The centers include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

These centers have been fortunate to receive generous donations, including cooked meals and hygiene kits, from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. The Fiji Red Cross has also contributed by supplying dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centers.

In light of the emergency situation, public advisories have been issued to encourage residents to stay prepared and to avoid unnecessary risks. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are currently active and working closely together, while the other divisions monitor weather conditions in their areas.

A Flood Warning is currently in place for regions near the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers, with a Flood Alert issued for flood-prone areas adjacent to all major rivers across Fiji. Police officers are ready to assist with evacuations in vulnerable areas if needed. Residents are strongly encouraged to evacuate promptly if necessary, preferably during daylight.

For those needing assistance, contact details are provided for the Commissioner Western’s Office and local police stations.

This proactive response showcases the community’s resilience and the importance of safety measures in times of crisis. It also highlights the spirit of collaboration among various organizations to support those in need during challenging times.
