Food rations provided by the government are slated to begin distribution as soon as tomorrow in the Western Division, particularly for residents housed in evacuation centres. Currently, four evacuation centres are operational, accommodating a total of 61 households and 234 individuals. These centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

In addition to government support, various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health have contributed by providing cooked meals and hygiene kits. The Fiji Red Cross has also delivered dignity kits to Saioni Church and Korovuto Secondary School.

Public safety advisories have been released, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and caution as the region closely monitors the weather situation. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are fully active, while other divisional centres are keeping watch over their areas.

Currently, a Flood Warning is in effect for places prone to flooding near and downstream from the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. A Flood Alert has also been issued for all major rivers across Fiji, indicating heightened awareness for flood risks in various regions.

In light of these circumstances, police officers remain on standby to assist with potential evacuations in susceptible areas. Citizens are advised to evacuate if instructed and to do so during daylight hours for their safety.

For assistance, residents can contact the following:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261
– Nearest Police Station for emergencies.

This proactive response from government bodies and organizations showcases a strong community spirit and determination to ensure safety during challenging weather conditions. It highlights the importance of collaboration and support among various entities to protect the vital needs of affected individuals and families.
