Food rations provided by the government are set to begin tomorrow for those residing in evacuation centers within the Western Division. Currently, four Evacuation Centres are operational, sheltering 61 families and a total of 234 individuals.

These centers include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. They have been recipients of generous donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, NGOs, and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has contributed dignity kits to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.

As part of a proactive approach to safety, public advisories have been issued to encourage readiness and the avoidance of risky situations. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) is fully functional, alongside the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre, with additional EOCs in the region monitoring weather developments closely.

A Flood Warning remains active for areas vulnerable to flooding along the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Furthermore, a Flood Alert is in effect for flood-prone regions adjacent to all major rivers across Fiji.

Police authorities are prepared to assist with the evacuation of residents in these vulnerable areas if the situation escalates. The public is strongly advised to evacuate when necessary, particularly during daylight hours for their safety. Those needing assistance are urged to contact the following numbers:

– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261
– Nearest Police Station: Reach out to your local station for emergencies.

In the face of challenging weather conditions, the coordinated response by various organizations and agencies reflects a strong community spirit and dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected.

Summary: The government is initiating food rations for those in evacuation centers in the Western Division while monitoring flood risk areas. Various organizations and agencies continue to support the affected communities through donations and prepared services. Public safety remains a priority, with police and emergency operations on standby.
