Food rations provided by the government are set to begin as soon as tomorrow in the Western Division to assist those currently housed in evacuation centres. Presently, four evacuation centres have been established, providing shelter for a total of 61 households and 234 individuals in the area.
The designated centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These locations have been fortunate to receive donations of cooked meals and hygiene kits from a variety of faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has supplied dignity kits specifically to Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.
In light of the impending weather concerns, public advisories have been issued to encourage preparedness and minimize risks. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are currently operational, while the other regional EOCs are actively tracking weather conditions in their respective areas.
A Flood Warning remains active for regions prone to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Additionally, a Flood Alert is in place for all flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the major rivers across Fiji.
Police personnel are prepared to assist residents in flood-prone areas with evacuation, should the situation warrant it. Citizens are strongly advised to evacuate if necessary, prioritizing safe travel during daylight.
