A total of 61 families currently residing in evacuation centers across the Western Division received food rations yesterday. Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, indicated that the focus of the distribution was in Nadi, with specific efforts at Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group office.

Mr. Lewaqai emphasized that food rations are distributed to evacuees 48 hours post-evacuation, and the team was working diligently to prepare the packages for these families, aiming to complete the distribution promptly.

In addition to the food distribution, teams on the ground are conducting assessments to evaluate homes affected by the recent disaster. Although the Western Division enjoys sunny weather at the moment, the Fiji Meteorological Service has cautioned that rainfall is expected in the coming days due to a lingering band of clouds.

Mr. Lewaqai assured that all relevant agencies have been briefed on the initial damage assessments, with plans for more comprehensive evaluations to determine the necessary support for affected communities in the aftermath of the disaster.

This proactive approach showcases the community’s resilience and the commitment of local authorities to support those in need during challenging times. With continued collaboration among agencies, affected families can hope for swift recovery and assistance.

Summary: Families in evacuation centers in the Western Division received food rations as part of relief efforts. Assessments of affected homes were underway, and while sunny weather prevails, rain is anticipated in the coming days. Local authorities remain focused on providing assistance and ensuring the community’s recovery.
