The Divisional Commissioner for the Western Division, Apolosi Lewaqai, has announced that the immediate priority is to distribute food rations to 61 families currently residing in evacuation centers.

This morning, dedicated teams have been mobilized to ensure that food supplies reach the affected families, particularly in Nadi. The distribution efforts are focused on several key locations, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

Commissioner Lewaqai clarified that the distribution of food rations begins 48 hours after an evacuation takes place. At present, teams are finalizing the preparation of food packages for these families, with the goal of completing the distribution by the end of the day.

He also highlighted that emergency operations centers will remain operational, as forecasts from the meteorological service predict ongoing rainfall throughout the weekend.

This swift response to the needs of evacuees demonstrates the commitment to supporting those affected by recent events. The collaboration of local agencies and the timely provision of food rations will help alleviate the struggles faced by these families during a challenging time.

In summary, effective measures are being implemented to support evacuated families in the Western Division as they navigate this difficult period. Hope remains alive as communities come together in solidarity, ensuring no one is left behind amidst the challenges posed by the weather.
