The Divisional Commissioner for the Western region, Apolosi Lewaqai, has announced that efforts are underway to provide food rations to 61 families currently residing in evacuation centers.

This morning, dedicated teams are engaged in distributing essential food supplies to those in need, focusing on areas in Nadi, including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. Per the established guidelines, food provisions are typically made available to evacuees 48 hours after their evacuation.

The distribution of food packages for these families is a priority, with plans set to complete the process by the end of the day. Commissioner Lewaqai has stated that the emergency operations centers will continue to operate actively, especially since the meteorological service has forecasted ongoing rainfall through the weekend.

In the face of challenging weather conditions, the prompt response of local officials demonstrates the community’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families during their time of need. It highlights the importance of preparedness and solidarity in the aftermath of emergencies, ensuring that those affected are cared for effectively.
