A total of 61 families in the Western Division, currently housed in evacuation centres, received food rations yesterday. Commissioner Western Apolosi Lewaqai emphasized the focus on providing assistance to families in Nadi, particularly those situated at Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group office.
Mr. Lewaqai explained that the guidelines dictate food rations are distributed to evacuees 48 hours post-evacuation. The team is actively preparing food packages for these families, with the goal of completing distribution that same day.
Additionally, Mr. Lewaqai mentioned that teams are conducting assessments to evaluate home conditions and residual levels. Despite the sunny weather currently in the Western Division, the Fiji Meteorological Service has warned of potential rain in the coming days due to persistent cloud cover over the country.
He assured that all relevant agencies have been updated on the initial damage assessment efforts, and the focus will shift towards comprehensive evaluations after the disaster to ascertain the necessary assistance for the affected communities.
In a time of adversity, the coordinated response and support for these families highlight the resilience and solidarity within the community, fostering hope for recovery and rebuilding efforts in the region.
