Digicel Fiji proudly takes center stage as the sponsor of the highly anticipated 2024 Central Community Games, set to occur this week from May 5 to May 7 at the Fiji Sports Council Facilities in Laucala Bay, Suva. In a sponsorship ceremony held last week, Digicel Fiji’s CEO, Farid Mohammed, officially handed over support to Peter Mazey, CEO of the Fiji National Sports Commission, marking a partnership aimed at uplifting and inspiring communities throughout the central division.

This year’s games are shaping up to be the largest yet, with an overwhelming participation of around 5,000 athletes competing in 500 registered teams. These teams will represent 72 urban communities alongside 13 rural community sports associations, promising a vibrant celebration of sports, culture, and community spirit over three exciting days.

With an expected turnout of over 30,000 youths and community members, the Central Community Games serve as an important gathering, going beyond mere competition to highlight Fiji’s rich talent and enduring community bonds.

Farid Mohammed expressed Digicel Fiji’s commitment to this cause, noting the significance of empowering youth through sports. “We’re proud to partner with the Fiji National Sports Commission to empower young athletes and inspire the next generation. By supporting the Central Community Games, we’re fostering healthy lifestyles, nurturing young talent, and building a brighter future for Fiji,” he stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Peter Mazey praised the sponsorship, referring to it as a transformative force in the realm of local sports development. “These games are more than just sports; they represent community pride, resilience, and the opportunity for our youth to shine,” he remarked.

The Central Community Games are not just about sports—they are a celebration of unity, resilience, and the spirit of community. This partnership between Digicel Fiji and the Fiji National Sports Commission signifies a collective movement toward creating opportunities for the future generation of athletes.

In summary, this year’s Central Community Games promises to be a monumental occasion that not only showcases athletic talent but also fosters community engagement and pride. With strong support from Digicel Fiji, the event holds the potential to leave a lasting impact on the youth and communities of Fiji.
