Opposition MP Parveen Kumar questioned the government in Parliament regarding the unfulfilled promise to conduct municipal elections within the first 100 days or six months following the election. During discussions on the Rakiraki Town Council’s Annual Report for 2019, Kumar highlighted that Fijians were assured of this timeline and expressed disappointment over the lack of action, labeling it a betrayal of public trust and a violation of Electoral Act 116 (4C).

Kumar urged the Attorney-General to address the matter, emphasizing his concern. In reply, Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa confirmed that local government elections would indeed be held. Nalumisa pointed out that Kumar had previously inquired about the election schedule during a session he did not attend. He reiterated his commitment to holding the local government elections without providing a specific timeline.
