Ana Mataiciwa, the Supervisor of Elections in Fiji, has lodged a police complaint against Barbara Malimali, the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The complaint, submitted on November 28 to Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, includes serious allegations of abuse of office, intimidation, and harassment of witnesses.

Chew has confirmed the existence of the report and stated that investigations are currently in progress. This complaint is tied to an ongoing inquiry by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that is looking into Malimali’s conduct. Additionally, her recent appointment has come under scrutiny from a Commission of Inquiry, and the CID is exploring allegations related to her past role as Chair of the Electoral Commission.

FijiLive has requested comments from FICAC regarding the situation.

This development highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in public office, addressing concerns over potential misconduct in Fiji’s electoral processes. It is essential for the ongoing investigations to be conducted thoroughly to maintain public trust in electoral and corruption oversight bodies. The accountability of officials not only aids in upholding integrity within institutions but also reassures the public of the commitment to upholding the rule of law in the nation.
