Eight individuals were taken to Korovou Hospital after a serious collision involving a container trailer and a minibus. The accident occurred around midday near Lokuya Hill, just before Verata Junction along King’s Road.
The patients included both drivers and six passengers from the minibus, all of whom required medical attention. In response to this incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic for the Fiji Police Force, urged all Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers to exercise greater caution while driving.
“This marks the second incident this week involving PSVs, and innocent passengers are increasingly becoming victims on our roads,” SSP Divuana emphasized.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
It is crucial for drivers, especially those operating public service vehicles, to prioritize safety on the roads to prevent such unfortunate incidents. Regular safety reminders and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations can help enhance road safety.
In the wake of this accident, it is hopeful that the community and authorities can come together to improve road awareness and make a concerted effort to safeguard all who travel on Fiji’s roads.
