Eight Fiji Drug Raid Suspects Set for Consolidated Hearing in Suva

Eight Fiji Drug Raid Suspects Set for Consolidated Hearing in Suva

Eight individuals charged following drug raids in Suva and the Western Division last September reappeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today as the state seeks to consolidate multiple cases into a single proceeding. The accused—Gina Choi, Peniasi Delai, and Logaimasino Baules—had previously appeared without legal representation.

On September 23, police allegedly discovered 0.345 grams of methamphetamine in their possession. In addition, Choi was reportedly found in possession of over $900 and foreign currency, while Baules was identified as a prohibited immigrant.

The other five accused joined the court session this morning, bringing the total number of individuals involved to eight. The state expressed its intention to consolidate the charges arising from the drug raids, a proposal that the defense indicated they do not oppose.

The court underscored that the consolidation process aims to streamline hearings, minimize duplication, and maintain consistency in the legal proceedings. Once the consolidation is formally approved, all eight accused will be combined under a single case, allowing for more efficient management of the hearings.

The next court date has been set for December 18, where the matter will be revisited. This development marks a significant step in handling the complexities of the case and may facilitate a more straightforward judicial process.
