The Fiji Muslim League’s president, Basheer Ahmed, has extended warm greetings to the community as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr, an occasion marking the conclusion of Ramadan. In his message, he emphasized the blessings of this month, which teaches compassion, empathy, and generosity—principles that should continue long after Ramadan has ended.
Throughout Ramadan, the importance of fasting was highlighted, as it connects individuals to the struggles of the less fortunate, nurturing a strong sense of community solidarity. In Fiji, the freedom to worship allowed Muslims to gather for Iftar and Taraweeh prayers, fostering inclusivity and shared experiences, especially with foreign visitors such as those from Bangladesh.
Support from international donors such as Human Appeal International, Hasene Foundation, and Human Care Inc. enabled the League to provide food vouchers and supplies to local families in need. In an inspiring demonstration of youth development, the Fiji Muslim League, in partnership with the Fiji Muslim Youth Movement, successfully organized training sessions in August 2024, drawing over 100 participants focused on youth empowerment and leadership.
The League also announced that Hafiz Mohammed Zamir, an assistant Pesh Imam, has been sent to Kiribati to establish educational programs and community gatherings, emphasizing the importance of maintaining spiritual practices even outside Fiji.
As the community celebrates Eid, Ahmed encouraged everyone to remember those less fortunate, particularly those facing hardships in Palestine and Syria. He expressed gratitude for the volunteers and members who contributed tirelessly to the Mosque’s efforts during Ramadan and the celebrations.
Amidst the joy and festivities of Eid, the calls for compassion, generosity, and community togetherness resonate as vital foundations for a harmonious society. The message is one of hope, highlighting how through unity and charity, communities can positively impact one another and foster an inclusive environment.
