The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has extended heartfelt greetings to the Fiji Muslim League and the global Muslim community in celebration of Eid. National President Dhirendra Nand emphasized that this occasion not only holds great significance in Islam but also serves as an essential reminder of faith, compassion, and unity.
Nand highlighted that Eid is a time for cultural and social connectivity, uniting families and communities through shared meals, acts of charity, and festivities. In Fiji, where diverse religious and cultural traditions coexist, Eid provides an opportunity to strengthen bonds among people from different backgrounds.
He noted, “Eid celebrations can be a bridge for interfaith dialogue, fostering understanding and cooperation among different religious communities. By participating in or learning about Eid, people of various faiths can appreciate the common values of kindness, generosity, and mutual respect.” Nand pointed out that respect and tolerance are crucial in a multicultural society, and the act of honoring each other’s traditions promotes harmony.
He also underscored the lessons of gratitude and giving that Eid teaches, with Zakat (almsgiving) highlighting the importance of assisting those in need—a principle shared across many faiths.
This year’s Eid celebrations in Fiji are imbued with a spirit of optimism, building on previous calls for inclusivity, kindness, and community solidarity during this festive time. The overarching message encourages everyone to engage in acts of goodwill and foster a spirit of empathy, reinforcing the essential fabric of Fiji’s multicultural society. Through compassion and connection, the hope remains that communities can continue to thrive together.
In summary, Eid stands as not only a religious observance but also a significant catalyst for building stronger community ties and fostering mutual respect among Fijians of all backgrounds.
