EFL Welcomes New CEO: What Changes Can We Expect?

Fatiaki Gibson has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), succeeding Hasmukh Patel, who has held the position for many years. Gibson’s official transition into this role comes after he joined the EFL Board of Directors in April 2024.

With an impressive career spanning 34 years in energy sector project development, Gibson possesses a wealth of experience that positions him well for leading EFL. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration and has dedicated over 26 years of his career to the Fiji Electricity Authority, which has become Energy Fiji Limited.

His extensive background includes consultancy work where he has acted as a project advisor for the Government of Vanuatu and the Asian Development Bank, particularly on the Vanuatu Energy Access Programme. Gibson’s contributions include leading a team through key projects that have made significant progress, including those on Malekula Island and the nearly completed high-voltage line on Espiritu Santo.

Gibson is no stranger to the energy landscape and has previously authored guidelines aimed at promoting private sector investment in renewable electricity generation in the Pacific, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation. His past roles within EFL have endowed him with considerable insights into the operational and developmental facets relevant to the company.
