EFL Appoints New CEO: A Fresh Era in Renewable Energy Begins

Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has officially appointed Fatiaki Gibson as its new Chief Executive, effective immediately. Gibson replaces Hasmukh Patel, who has held the role since August 2008. Patel will remain with EFL in an advisory capacity, assisting Gibson during the transition.

Gibson is a well-respected figure in the energy sector, boasting 34 years of experience, including significant roles in energy project development. He has previously served as General Manager of Major Projects at EFL and is noted for his leadership experience within the industry. Before this appointment, Gibson was involved in the Vanuatu Energy Access Programme, working as a project advisor for the Government of Vanuatu and the Asian Development Bank. His team from Stantec New Zealand has successfully commissioned energy projects, including those on Malekula and the nearly finished high-voltage line on Espiritu Santo.

His extensive background in energy development and consultancy positions him as a strong leader, capable of steering EFL toward innovative solutions, particularly in renewable energy initiatives. His previous contributions to the sector include co-authoring a guide for the International Finance Corporation on promoting private sector investments in renewable energy in the Pacific.

The change in leadership comes at an exciting time for EFL as it looks toward the future, aiming for growth and sustainability in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. EFL’s focus on enhancing its renewable energy initiatives reflects a commitment to innovative practices, ensuring it remains a key player in the Pacific’s energy sector.

This transition offers hope for substantial advancements in energy efficiency and sustainability under Gibson’s leadership, potentially benefiting both EFL and the broader community.
