The Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications is currently in discussions with the Ministry of Education to incorporate entrepreneurship education into the school curriculum. Minister Manoa Kamikamica informed Parliament that various service providers are also engaging with the Ministry of Education regarding this initiative.
Kamikamica mentioned, “There is a push to enhance awareness and education related to cooperatives and MSMEs in the educational system.” He pointed out that TELS is set to launch a university-level entrepreneurial program as part of the current budget, with an allocation of approximately half a million dollars, marking a significant beginning.
He elaborated that the development of curricula is actively in progress, highlighting a shift in perception regarding entrepreneurship. “Currently, entrepreneurship is often viewed as a pursuit for individuals in their forties and fifties, typically as a pre-retirement option. However, we have observed a strong entrepreneurial spirit among our youth. With proper encouragement and favorable policies, we can foster a more dynamic entrepreneurial culture at a younger age.”
Kamikamica affirmed that creating effective curriculums is ongoing and that he has held discussions with service providers eager to contribute in this field.
