Education Ministry Settles Bus Fare Differences: What’s Next for Students?

The Ministry of Education has finalized the payment for the adjusted bus fares to Vodafone Fiji Limited. Following the new bus fare adjustments that took effect on September 1, 2024, the Ministry has reassured parents, guardians, and students that payments were made only after a thorough reconciliation of tap records for both the blue and yellow bus cards.

The verified reconciliation documents were sent to the Ministry during the first week of October. After conducting additional verification in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, the payment for the fare differences was completed on October 15.

As of September 10, 2024, a total of 103,321 students benefited from the Transport Assistance Program. Among them, 62,988 students received e-transport through the blue subsidized cards, while 40,333 students received transport assistance via RSL.

In alignment with the agreement between the Education Ministry and its stakeholders, the payment for fare differences will be processed at the end of each month to Vodafone Fiji.
