Education Minister Promises Fixes as Acting Allowances Face Delays

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has addressed concerns regarding the delay in the payment of acting allowances for teachers and non-teaching staff, confirming that while payments are being processed, some delays are inevitable due to necessary verification and procedural requirements. His comments came in response to Opposition Member of Parliament Hem Chand, who highlighted the impact of these delays on staff morale and productivity, citing specific cases of educators and Ministry personnel who have not received these allowances for several months.

Radrodro emphasized the importance of a strict verification process to ensure that acting allowances are allocated to the correct individuals. “The allowance has been paid. For those that have not been paid allowance, there is a process that needs to be followed. We have to ensure that the allowance has been paid to the right person,” he stated. The minister signaled awareness of past issues where payments were mistakenly made to ghost employees, indicating that steps are being taken to avoid such occurrences in the future.

Furthermore, Radrodro addressed concerns regarding the filling of acting positions within the Ministry of Education, explaining that while some processes are in place to confirm these roles, ongoing staff turnover—due to migration and other job opportunities—has created a need for proper advertisement of these vacancies in accordance with established guidelines.

The Minister reassured that the Ministry is actively committed to addressing these staff concerns, highlighting a desire to improve the situation for educators and staff alike. This commitment reflects an understanding of the challenges faced within the education system and a readiness to implement necessary changes to enhance morale and productivity among personnel. The focus on appropriate verification and timely payments promises a more stable environment for educational staff moving forward.
