The introduction of a $200 education assistance program for students has significantly alleviated financial pressures for many parents across the country. For families preparing to send their children to Year One, this financial boost is particularly beneficial, as they gear up for the crucial first day of school.

In conversations with FBC News, parents shared how this assistance has become an invaluable resource in their back-to-school preparations. Ruth Delai, a mother living on Reservoir Road, stated that the funding has eased her financial burden, particularly for essential items beyond standard stationery. She noted, “It helped with, especially with, I think, the shoes and the bags, just the extra things. Yes, but otherwise, the books, they were quite reasonable.”

Many parents began their shopping well before the holiday season, managing to set aside savings for their children’s educational needs. Viniana Wailo, a mother of twins attending Veiuto Primary School, reflected on her proactive approach: “Actually, before Christmas, I already bought their stuff, their books, already covered. Only their shoes and bags. Last-minute shopping yesterday.”

The Ministry of Education has confirmed the full disbursement of the education assistance, which has been met with appreciation from parents. However, some families are still waiting for their funds due to alleged discrepancies in their applications. Those who have been able to access the assistance express their gratitude for the investment in their children’s education, highlighting the program’s positive impact on their ability to afford necessary school items.

This initiative not only provides financial relief but also fosters a sense of community support among parents as they collaboratively navigate back-to-school preparations. As families gather their resources and celebrate this new academic year, the assistance stands as a testament to the importance of investing in education and supporting families in their journey.
