Eddie Murphy Ties the Knot in Secret Ceremony

Eddie Murphy has tied the knot with Australian model Paige Butcher in a private ceremony. According to People magazine, the couple wed on Tuesday, July 9, on the island of Anguilla, surrounded by family and close friends.

Murphy and Butcher began dating in 2012 and got engaged in September 2018. They have two children together, an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son. Murphy, who is a father of 10, welcomed his first child with Butcher in 2016, followed by their second in 2018.

While accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Murphy expressed gratitude towards Butcher and his children, saying, “I want to say thank you to Paige and all of my amazing children for your love and support and inspiration.”

This marriage is the second for Murphy and the first for Butcher.

Murphy’s wedding coincides with his return to the role of Axel Foley in the latest Beverly Hills Cop installment, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” which premiered on Netflix on July 3. In the film, Beverly Hills Cop Foley partners with Detective Bobby Abbott, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and reconnects with former colleagues John Taggart (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) to unveil a conspiracy after his daughter’s life is threatened.

Commenting on his return to the iconic character during an appearance on the Today show, Murphy quipped, “It felt like old man. I did Beverly Hills Cop when I was 21, and I’m 63 now.” He added, “Beverly Hills Cop was my first movie that I’m the lead in. If I travel overseas, they call me Axel Foley. Axel is an everyman who rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like it. And more than anything, he’s funny.”
