Fiji is witnessing a potential resurgence in its economy, highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica’s recent remarks at the Fiji National University conference. Kamikamica expressed optimism regarding the restructuring of the economy, emphasizing a shift towards a construction-led growth model alongside the revival of tourism.

The Minister noted that the Namosi Hydro project may re-emerge as a significant contributor to this growth, which aligns with ongoing discussions about diversifying Fiji’s economic landscape. He stressed the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in equipping the workforce with necessary skills to meet the demands of an expanding economy.

Kamikamica’s outlook is supported by broader reports from various officials, including former Reserve Bank Governor Barry Whiteside, who projects a growth rate of around 3 percent this fiscal year, potentially rising to 4 percent in subsequent years. This growth is largely attributed to strong tourism recovery and investments in infrastructure.

Earlier discussions by Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, emphasized the need for private sector involvement in driving economic recovery, particularly in agriculture and mining. The previous highlights about initiatives and projects, such as the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, underscore the commitment to sustainable practices and leveraging natural resources responsibly to stimulate economic advancement.

Overall, Fiji’s renewed focus on construction, tourism, and resource development is paving the way for a resilient economic future. This multifaceted strategy not only anticipates growth but also promotes community development and improves the quality of life for all Fijians. The government’s proactive approach can inspire confidence among investors and the populace alike, as Fiji positions itself for a stable and prosperous economic horizon.
