Eco-Friendly Faith: Fiji’s Ganga Pooja Embraces Sustainability

During the Ganga Pooja at the Nasese foreshore today, participants are urged to be environmentally conscious by avoiding the disposal of plastic and non-degradable materials into the sea. Krishneel Krishan Tiwari, the National Secretary of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, emphasized that natural, biodegradable items should be utilized during the ritual, following the approval from the Suva City Council for the event that marks the end of Ram Navami.

Mr. Tiwari stated that there are bins provided near the seaside for proper disposal, stressing the community’s responsibility to protect the environment as part of their dharmic duties. To ensure the safety and orderly conduct of the event, the police will be patrolling designated coastal areas to assist the devotees.

This event not only highlights the importance of religious and cultural practices but also reflects a growing recognition within communities to align such celebrations with environmental stewardship. As they gather to celebrate Ram Navami with devotion and discipline, there’s a hopeful tone towards fostering respect for nature and enhancing the spiritual experience during these significant observances within the Hindu community.

Community leaders strongly believe that combining spirituality with sustainability encourages a culture of responsibility and reinforces values of respect towards the environment. As Fiji continues to celebrate its diverse cultural heritage, this fusion of tradition with ecological mindfulness serves as a positive step toward a greener future.
