The Kadavu Medical Team, alongside the medical professionals from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, conducted a successful ECHO Outreach day aimed at screening children in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. This initiative is crucial, as echocardiograms are instrumental in identifying a range of heart conditions, including damage from heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
To eliminate transportation obstacles, the Ministry provided free transportation for both the children and their guardians to and from the screening venue, ensuring that access to necessary health services was expanded.
During the outreach, a total of 395 children underwent screening, resulting in 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease being identified, which is significant when considering the serious implications this disease can have on health.
This outreach is a commendable effort to enhance cardiovascular health among children in the region and demonstrates a collective commitment to addressing health disparities. The initiative not only identifies health issues but also strengthens community awareness about heart health among children.
In summary, this successful initiative highlights the importance of collaborative health efforts and the proactive steps being taken to ensure children’s heart health is monitored and treated effectively. The community can be optimistic that such outreach programs will continue to make a difference in the lives of many children.
