The Kadavu Medical Team, in partnership with the medical personnel at Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully hosted their inaugural ECHO Outreach event for children in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. An echocardiogram is a vital tool that helps in diagnosing various heart conditions, including those resulting from heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.

To facilitate access for families, the Ministry arranged complimentary transportation for both the children and their guardians, ensuring they could reach the screening site without any obstacles.

During the outreach, a remarkable total of 395 children were screened, leading to the identification of 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease, separate from those diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease.

This initiative not only highlights the community’s commitment to improving children’s health but also underscores the importance of early detection and intervention in preventing severe outcomes associated with heart diseases.

The collaboration between local medical teams and support from the Ministry showcases a proactive approach to healthcare, paving the way for better health prospects for the younger population in the region. It is a hopeful step forward in addressing heart health among children, demonstrating that when communities come together, significant positive change can occur in public health.
