Staff from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, alongside the Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office, held their annual Easter Service at the Wesley City Mission Church in Suva. Reverend Tevita Ramokosoi Kete led the service, which was a time for reflection, unity, and spiritual grounding for the ministry officials.

Minister Sakiasi R Ditoka took the opportunity to challenge the staff to view Easter not just as a religious observance but also as a meaningful moment for personal and professional introspection. He underscored the significant moral duty of public servants to provide selfless service to communities, particularly those residing in remote and disaster-prone areas. “Our role is more than technical or administrative—it is a calling to serve,” Ditoka stated, emphasizing that kindness and urgent attention to the needs of the community are paramount in their responsibilities.

His message encouraged staff to renew their dedication to values of empathy and service, inspired by the Easter themes of sacrifice and hope. Drawing from the Christian belief represented by the “empty tomb,” Ditoka reminded attendees that hope prevails, and that even the smallest acts of service, when done with love, can have powerful impacts.

The Easter Service not only provided a moment of pause for staff but also renewed their shared commitment to delivering essential services throughout Fiji’s rural and maritime regions. This aligns with broader themes emphasized by other national leaders, who advocate for light, compassion, and community support during religious observances.

Similar to the sentiments expressed during Palm Sunday by various leaders, this Easter gathering reflects a collective call for kindness and resilience amidst challenges, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness within the diverse communities of Fiji. Ultimately, events like these foster a hopeful outlook for continued dedication to public service and a brighter future for all citizens.
