The youth of St. Pius X Catholic parish delivered a poignant performance of the Good Friday crucifixion, moving many attendees to tears. The dramatic depiction included soldiers mocking Jesus as he carried the wooden cross throughout the church, offering an emotional reminder of the journey to Calvary that symbolizes salvation for humanity.
Saverio Perau, the youth president, highlighted the significance of this drama during Holy Week, stating, “We needed to remind everyone about the journey to Calvary which saved all men.” The performance drew collaboration from friends at the Methodist Church in Raiwaqa, enhancing its impact and demonstrating a spirit of unity among different Christian communities.
Participants shared their personal experiences during the play. Stephan Daveta, who took on the role of Jesus, expressed the deep emotional connection he felt while performing, remarking, “As I carried the cross, I cried because I felt something different, something touched my heart.” Similarly, Grace Mua, who portrayed Mary, shared her tears during the act, emphasizing its realness and the emotional weight of her character as a single mother.
This dramatic reenactment echoes sentiments seen during other community events surrounding Easter, such as the programs at Gospel Primary School that emphasize messages of love and redemption. The broader community’s engagement in these performances during the Easter season underscores the themes of hope and unity, resonating with the spirit of collaboration that is often celebrated during these significant religious observances.
Such performances not only enrich local faith practices but also serve as a heartfelt reminder of the values of compassion and sacrifice that lie at the core of the Easter message, fostering a sense of reflection and connection among participants and the audience alike.
