Gospel Primary School celebrated Easter on Wednesday with a special program that included drama, skits, and speeches focused on themes of love and redemption. Emali Lalabalavu, a kindergarten teacher, emphasized the core message of Easter, stressing that Jesus loves everyone, regardless of their backgrounds. “Whether we are red, yellow, black or white, he loves us all. And he died for each and every one of us,” she expressed.
During the event, kindergarten students performed a short play depicting Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem, taking on various roles including that of Jesus, a donkey, and Roman guards, which vividly illustrated the biblical narrative. They complemented this with an action song celebrating Jesus’s resurrection, showcasing their enthusiasm and understanding of the event. Lalabalavu remarked that the preparation for the performance was manageable due to most students’ familiarity with the Easter story stemming from their Christian backgrounds.
School Headteacher Jope Ravolaca highlighted the significance of Easter, calling it “the most powerful moment in history.” He noted the profound impact of the events surrounding Easter, stating, “Jesus died for us and he came back to life. And that is something that is amazing to all human beings.”
The Easter weekend officially begins today and lasts until Monday, April 21, marking a time of reflection and celebration for many.
This joyful celebration at Gospel Primary School aligns with the broader sentiments expressed by various community leaders in Fiji, who emphasize the themes of hope, unity, and kindness during this period. Similar to the messages delivered leading into Palm Sunday, which marks the start of Holy Week, there is a consistent call for nurturing compassion within families and communities. It’s inspiring to see such positive energy directed towards fostering a sense of togetherness among students and the community in this season of reflection and renewal.
