A group of over 200 youths from Suva and Wainadoi are set to participate in an Easter camp at Vanuabalavu, with the goal of uplifting young people and providing support to communities affected by recent cyclones. This initiative, led by the Suva South SDA District, will couple spiritual reflection with outreach activities.
The camp aims to deliver more than $10,000 in donated supplies, including school materials and desks, to local schools still recovering from the impact of Tropical Cyclone Rae. Additionally, government agencies such as the Online Safety Commission and the Ministry of Youth and Health will host community programs during the camp, showcasing a collective effort to enhance youth engagement and welfare.
Youth leader Lesi Vanuavou emphasized the importance of this venture as a direct response to the rising social challenges faced by young individuals. He encouraged other communities to engage in similar outreach efforts, asserting that collaboration is essential in tackling the pressing issues that many youths encounter today.
This initiative follows a growing trend of youth involvement in community activities, echoing sentiments expressed by community leaders, like Reverend Simione Tugi of the Fiji Council of Churches, who recently called for more support to help young people reconnect spiritually and overcome various societal challenges, including addiction and violence.
The Easter camp not only promises to be an adventurous gathering for these youths, but also serves as an important reminder of the positive impact that community spirit and collective efforts can have on rebuilding and empowering affected regions.
