As the back-to-school season approaches, parents across the nation are opting to begin their shopping earlier this year in a bid to manage expenses effectively. Retailers are responding to this trend by adapting their services to make the shopping experience more convenient for families.
Jitesh Patel, President of the Suva Retailers Association, highlighted the efforts of local retailers to streamline the back-to-school process. He stated, “We have created a one-stop shop for back-to-school needs, so you don’t have to go everywhere. Our shop has school uniforms, stationery, books, shoes, school bags, and everything you need to get ready. We aim to provide the best prices, allowing customers to easily find all they need in one place.”
Parents who are taking advantage of early shopping are finding that it alleviates financial pressure. Suva resident Tavaita Dauqoli noted the benefits of planning ahead. “This time we decided to shop early while it’s still quiet, so when school starts, everything will already be prepared. My budget is not very big; we’ve spent less than fifty dollars so far – and prices are still normal, so it’s a good time for parents to shop now.”
For families with children in boarding schools, preparation is particularly crucial. Parent Waisake Tavutavu from Kadavu shared insights into the importance of education and the sacrifices it entails. “I have already prepared everything for my children because education brings light to the family, and parents must be willing to sacrifice for their children, because one day they will give back.”
As the start of the school year nears, parents are encouraged to plan ahead, compare prices, and focus on essential items. This proactive approach not only helps in managing budgets but also ensures a smoother transition into the new academic year. By taking these steps, families can look forward to a successful school term ahead.
