Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has confirmed that the Back-to-School Support payments for the 2025 academic year have been successfully processed and distributed ahead of schedule. Originally set for January 15, this early disbursement allows families an additional two and a half weeks to prepare for the new school year starting on January 27, 2025.

The initiative received a total of 208,673 applications, among which 200,176 were successfully processed, resulting in a notable payout of $40.4 million. Currently, 8,313 applications are on hold, pending Year-12 exam results necessary for students to officially enroll in Year 13.

Each child is eligible for $200 in support, aimed at alleviating financial burdens associated with essential school expenses, including uniforms, school bags, shoes, and stationery. Parents and guardians can access these funds via digital platforms such as MPAiSA and MyCASH, or at Post Fiji outlets. For families in maritime areas, funds can be collected at local Post Fiji agencies by presenting their child’s student ID as proof.

This initiative is a key component of the Coalition Government’s strategy to support families, especially those with household incomes below $50,000. Historically, the Back-to-School Support program has benefited approximately 200,000 students annually, with the government investing around $130 million into educational assistance over the years.

The timely distribution of this financial aid not only provides essential relief for families during the back-to-school season but also reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to fostering educational readiness. The collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education underscore the importance of community support in easing the challenges faced by families during this critical time.

In summary, this proactive approach to education expenditures represents a hopeful signal for families, ensuring that children are well-equipped to take on their new academic journeys filled with promise and opportunities.
