The Back-to-School Support payment for the 2025 academic year has been successfully processed and distributed ahead of schedule. This proactive measure allows families an additional two and a half weeks to prepare for school, which starts on January 27, 2025, earlier than the initially planned date of January 15.
This initiative received a total of 208,673 applications, out of which 200,176 were approved, resulting in a substantial payout of $40.4 million. Currently, 8,313 applications remain on hold as they await Year-12 exam results necessary for students to enroll in Year 13. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, stated that eligible families can access $200 for each child, helping to cover essential expenses such as uniforms, school bags, shoes, and stationery.
Parents have multiple ways to access their funds, including through digital platforms like MPAiSA and MyCASH, or by visiting Post Fiji outlets. In maritime regions, funds can be collected at local Post Fiji agencies upon presenting the child’s student ID.
This program is a key component of the Coalition Government’s commitment to assisting families, particularly those with household incomes below $50,000. Historically, the Back-to-School Support initiative has benefited around 200,000 students annually, totaling approximately $130 million in educational assistance since its inception.
The early disbursement not only alleviates financial pressure during the back-to-school season but also emphasizes the government’s dedication to fostering educational preparedness. This initiative sends a hopeful message to families, ensuring children are well-equipped as they embark on their new academic journeys filled with opportunities.
The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education extend their gratitude to all involved, including school heads, teachers, and parents, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in supporting educational success.
