Esther Kuva experienced an overwhelming sense of gratitude and joy as she received the dux award for Nakasi High School last month. This young woman has become a source of inspiration for her family and friends, attributing her academic success to divine guidance amid personal challenges.
Kuva faced significant adversity, having lost her mother to bone cancer just before her Year 12 examinations. Despite this heartbreaking loss, she channeled her grief into a determination to create a better future for herself and her siblings. “Starting this year without her has been quite challenging,” Kuva reflected on the impact of her mother’s passing. “There have been a lot of obstacles, but I’m thankful that I’m still standing here. Without God, I wouldn’t be achieving this.”
In her acceptance speech, Kuva expressed heartfelt appreciation for her family, especially her aunt and uncle, who provided support during difficult times. She also acknowledged her maternal grandmother, who attended the ceremony, representing the love and guidance of her late mother.
During the prize-giving ceremony, Kuva’s achievements were recognized with multiple accolades, including the Year 13 prize, leadership award, Year 13 distinction award, principal award, as well as awards for best science student and individual subjects such as English and Biology. Her humble reaction upon receiving these honors was one of surprise, underscoring her belief that her success was part of a greater plan.
Balancing her academic responsibilities with her role as head girl proved challenging, but Kuva’s commitment and discipline led to her remarkable performance. Looking ahead, she aspires to enter the medical field, considering a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or dentistry, with the goal of helping others in the future.
Kuva’s journey reflects resilience, hope, and the power of support from loved ones. Her story serves as a reminder that even in times of hardship, dedication and faith can guide individuals toward success, inspiring others to overcome their challenges as well.
This narrative not only highlights Kuva’s personal triumphs but also emphasizes the importance of family support and perseverance in achieving one’s dreams.
