2024 Olympic silver medalists Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada are taking on new roles as they step into leadership positions with the Fijian Drua 7s during the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. Although both players are currently rehabilitating from injuries, they have been appointed to guide their teammates from the coaches’ box.

Leading the team will be captain Tuidraki Samusamuvodre, with a strong supporting cast that includes experienced players such as Joseva Tamani, Kemu Valetini, Epeli Momo, and Ilaisa Droasese. The Fijian Drua General Manager, Baden Stephenson, expressed enthusiasm about the Drua participating in the Mataso 7s, highlighting the opportunity for players to gain valuable experience while enjoying the game.

Stephenson noted, “It’s great for the Drua to be able to participate in the Mataso 7s, and we thank the organisers for accommodating us. It will be a timely experience for our players to get some match intensity and put their skills to the test against a field of talented local teams.” He also emphasized the importance of personal development within the Drua, mentioning how Masi and Ravutaumada are excited to share their insights and knowledge of 7s rugby with their teammates as part of their rehabilitation journey.

The Mataso 7s tournament is set to begin tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka, showcasing an exciting array of talent both from seasoned players and emerging stars within the sport.

This initiative reflects a positive approach to overcoming injury setbacks, as Masi and Ravutaumada not only focus on recovery but also contribute to the growth of their team. Their involvement in coaching demonstrates the value of mentorship in sports, where experienced athletes can influence and inspire younger players. The event represents a blend of competition and camaraderie, promising an engaging experience for both participants and fans alike.
