Dudley Intermediate School’s under-13 rugby team celebrated a hard-earned victory over Marist Convent during the quarter-finals of the Suva Kaji Rugby competition at the Saint Marcellin Primary School grounds. The match, highly competitive and filled with anticipation, showcased both teams’ determination.

In a tense first half, neither team managed to break the deadlock. The second half saw Marist Convent briefly pull ahead with a 3-0 lead from a successful penalty kick. However, Dudley responded with two penalty kicks of their own, ultimately clinching the game with a final score of 6-3, which secures their place in next week’s semi-finals.

Head coach Sakiusa Tuivanuavou commended his players for their exceptional commitment throughout the match and praised their ability to regroup after a challenging first half. “The boys really gave their all today; they committed themselves during training, and it paid off with a good result,” he stated. He acknowledged that their performance didn’t align with the game plan during the first half but was proud of how they adapted after halftime.

Coach Tuivanuavou underscored the necessity of improving their defensive strategies as they advance deeper into the tournament and face stronger opponents in the next rounds. He also recognized Marist Convent’s challenging gameplay, highlighting the strength they displayed during the match.

This victory not only boosts Dudley’s confidence moving forward but also reflects the vibrant youth rugby scene in Fiji. The ongoing support for these young athletes creates an uplifting atmosphere, encouraging teamwork and perseverance among players.

As the Suva Kaji Rugby competition progresses, the anticipation builds for the upcoming semi-finals, where skills and camaraderie will continue to shine on the field. This spirit of sportsmanship serves to inspire both players and spectators alike, fostering a positive community around youth rugby in the region.
