A 37-year-old man from Lautoka has been taken into police custody following a vehicular accident in which he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on Sukanaivalu Road, where the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a 40-year-old account clerk who was standing by the roadside. The injured clerk has been admitted to Lautoka Aspen Hospital for treatment, while the driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate incident the same morning, another 37-year-old man from Kuku, Bau, Tailevu, also lost control of his vehicle while driving on Knolly Street. He crashed into a concrete retaining wall while under the influence of alcohol and is receiving care at CWM Hospital.

Authorities are currently conducting traffic investigations into both accidents, highlighting the ongoing issue of road safety and the dangers associated with driving under the influence.

It is crucial for drivers to recognize the severe risks that intoxication poses not only to themselves but also to pedestrians and other road users. These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving, particularly during celebrations or events that may involve alcohol consumption. Communities are encouraged to work together to promote awareness and prevent such accidents in the future.
