Drugs Under Focus: Shift in Arrest Trends Sparks Community Caution

Police have reported a decline in arrests for white drugs and a rise in arrests related to green drugs over the past month, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu.

ACP Driu suggested that the high market prices for white drugs might be contributing to the drop in arrests, while also leading to an increase in the use of green drugs. He noted that these findings reflect the progress being made in police enforcement efforts.

The current objective for law enforcement is to reduce the drug supply to the mainland, with ongoing operations in Labasa aimed at combating drug cultivation, particularly marijuana. ACP Driu highlighted a growing number of cultivators in Labasa and mentioned successful efforts to eradicate drugs from locations such as the Lau Islands, specifically Mavana in Vanuabalavu.

Furthermore, he indicated that the police plan to address drug cultivation in areas including Gau, Lomaiviti, and Koro, where there have been notable cultivation activities.

ACP Driu expressed appreciation for community members who have been instrumental in providing information to the police. He commended the public for their cooperation, which has aided in conducting raids targeting both individuals and marijuana cultivators, particularly in the Lau and Savusavu areas.
