During the recent Annual Conference of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Sigatoka, Acting Director Nancy Tikoisuva emphasized the significant threat that drugs pose to society. She highlighted that the drug epidemic is not only impacting individuals but also families, communities, churches, and educational institutions across Fiji.
Ms. Tikoisuva pointed out the changing landscape of criminal behavior, particularly among the youth, and the need for a deeper understanding of the drug crisis. She noted that alongside drug issues, Fiji is facing challenges with cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and mental health, all of which contribute to the vulnerabilities in the lives of its citizens.
It is crucial to address these multifaceted threats comprehensively to protect the future of Fiji’s youth and the health of society as a whole. Initiatives aimed at education, prevention, and intervention could serve to bolster community resilience and support families affected by these pressing issues.
Looking ahead, as the community and government stakeholders come together to confront these challenges, there is hope that collaborative efforts will foster a safer and healthier environment for all Fijians.
