Drug Traffickers Don Disguises to Outsmart Fiji Border Patrol

A concerning new trend in drug trafficking has emerged in Fiji, with traffickers posing as pastors or elderly women to evade detection by border officers. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Immigration and Home Affairs, highlighted this issue as a significant challenge for law enforcement and border control agents.

These traffickers reportedly utilize international airports as points of entry, smuggling drugs by disguising themselves as religious figures or senior citizens. Mr. Tikoduadua explained that the perpetrators frequently change their appearances to avoid capture.

He praised the efforts of the nation’s border security personnel who work diligently to protect Fiji from drug-related crimes. Mr. Tikoduadua also urged the public to participate in the national action plan against drugs, emphasizing that the fight against drug trafficking is a collective responsibility that extends beyond law enforcement to include businesses and the wider community.
